Hatha Yoga / Ashtanga / Vinyasa / Kriya
Based on the teachings from Bihar school of Yoga and Sivananda Vedanta Academy we share a multi-style dynamic Hatha yoga/Vinyasa flow with attention to proper alignment and connection to breath. Kriya yoga is a comprehensive spiritual practice, which – through mudra, pranayama, mantra, and postures- helps create a state of tranquility and a deeper connection to oneSelf.
Meditation
Meditation simply means following the rhythm of one’s breath and allow the thoughts to move without any particular attachment. Chakra, one pointed, guided, fire, natural cave meditation, and other techniques are offered. All students benefit from this mind calming experience.
Yin Yoga
A slow paced meditative asana practice, in which postures are held for a longer period of time. The aim of this style of yoga is to improve flexibility by placing moderate stress to the body’s connective tissues and to appreciate inner silence for a deeper state of relaxation. This is a great practice to balance the more vigorous approach to yoga postures. It is available to all levels of practitioners and does not require any previous experience.
Yoga Nidra
Sometimes called “yogic sleep” yoga nidra is an ancient antidote to stress and a form of deep meditation that works by triggering the relaxation response in our parasympathetic nervous system. In a particular session students rest in savasana – corpse pose- for approximately 45 minutes and are guided to a deep letting go to create a peaceful mind-body connection. Suitable to all levels of students and highly recommended for those leading a stressful lifestyle.
Restorative Yoga
In restorative yoga, poses – usually supine or seated- are held with the support of props – such as blankets and bolsters – so the body is invited to open through passive stretching. The focus is directed to one’s breath and inner connection for a complete relaxation of mind, body, and spirit. All levels of students are welcome to this slow-paced, regenerating practice.
Pranayama
Or “breathing techniques” are at the core of any yoga practice. Different options and examples are offered in each class as students are invited to explore their own connection to prana, life force energy. This practice is recommended to all levels of students as it improves one’s focus and relieves stress.
Meet Our Yogis
Yogi Vimal
Born and raised in Rishikesh, Vimal’s journey as a yogi began years ago with his studies at the Bihar School of Yoga – founded by Swami Satyananda Saraswati – and continued at the Sivananda Vedanda Academy in Rishikesh. Following his Guruji’s advice and as part of his sadhana (spiritual practice) Vimal lived alone for a year in a cave on the banks of the Ganga. Just a cloth to cover him, he bathed in and drank the sacred water from the river, eating only a potato brought to him every day. This unique life’s transforming experience has permitted him to deeply understand the real meaning of living a yogic lifestyle. For the past ten years Vimal has been teaching yoga and meditation in India and other parts of Asia to improve one’s physical health as well as one’s spiritual life. He now shares his experience through daily classes, workshops, and retreats in Rishikesh and abroad. His energetic yet approachable teachings reflect a genuine understanding of the classical path of yoga with a modern outlook. His authentic classes are spiritually charged with life changing teachings; these can be incorporated into daily routines to ultimately live a more joyful and purposeful life.
